February Winemaker's Barrel: Tyler Magyar of Monument
Former Liner & Elsen employee and friend of the shop Tyler Magyar is our first featured winemaker of 2023. In Tyler's own words, he started Monument after years of selling wine retail and moonlighting in friends' wineries. His approach is simple: make honest, thoughtful wines without adornment or cutting corners. The most important thing to him is that the wines are sincere -- from the vineyard sources and vinification process to the label aesthetic and the people with whom he chooses to work.Â
Monument Wine Company is based right here in Portland, Oregon, and Tyler works with grapes from multiple Oregon regions. He primarily works with blends and co-ferments, using minimal intervention to make lower-alcohol, old-world style wines, or as Tyler was calling it in an August 2022 Oregonian article by Michael Alberty, "Frenchy style."
We will be featuring four of Tyler's wines on Saturday, February 18th, 2023. Join Tyler and the L&E crew and explore these beautiful local wines! This is a free tasting.Â
