Rioja, but planted in the westernmost quarter of the region where the Cantabrian mountains let a little Atlantic air through. It's cooler in Akutain's vineyards, and their Tempranillo is fresher and more aromatic than the normal. They age their wines according to the traditional Rioja model in American oak.
