This edition is Sean's top line cuvee, assembled from the very best barrels and best plots of the estate, essentially the "Gran Selezione" without the official name. A bare 5% of the oak for aging is new, the lowest elevation site is 1500 feet. The nose is elegant but heady, with notes of nutmeg and allspice, black raspberry, leather and dried herbs and dusty earth. The palate is bound with tightly knit tannins and loud acidity. Flavors are of black raspberries and chalky soils and woodspice and pipe tobacco. It's a heck of a wine now, but a few years in the cellar will bring out much more from this intensely structured wine.
