Most Chenin Blanc that grows in this quarter of the Loire region is notably powerful. Whether these wines are bold and full blooded or ethereal and electric, Anjou Chenin comes with strong bass notes. Red grapes fit differently into the puzzle, and particularly so in this place so known for white. Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%) in this wine show an elegant, unhurried side, brimming with tobacco leaves and tomato leaves and all sorts of leafy herbaceous notes that make you wonder if they forgot to put in the grapes. The fruit does come along on the palate, suave and silky, but it derives power from persistence, rather than volume.
