In 1864, Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves returned to his homeland in Castile after learning to make wine  in Bordeaux. He planted a vineyard in the Ribera del Duero and began making a sort of wine that had never existed in central Spain, informed by French traditions, seasoned with Bordeaux varieties, but a uniquely Spanish wine. Today, under the hand of the Alvarez family, Vega Sicilia makes the finest wine in Ribera del Duero under three iconic names: Unico, aged no less than a decade before release, Valbuena 5, and Albion. They make some of the best Rioja and Toro too, through their Macan and Pintia estates. Join us in welcoming importer Dennis Fassett to guide us through a taste of Vega Sicilia’s estates, each one among the best of their kind.
