Chardonnay is sometimes described as a blank canvas for the winemaker to paint, so you get all sorts of different styles of wine from the same grape. The way Shahnnen and Alex make their Chardonnay, they must be using neon paint because this is one of the brightest Chardonnays we know of. It smells of spring blossoms, lemon chiffon clouds, dried rosemary and flaky salt. On the palate, there’s an electric currant of acidity running through lime and lemon curd. The texture is elegant and smooth thanks to a year in clay amphorae, but dancing light at just 11.3% alcohol. The wine is named after Alex’s grandmother, who was an avid reader and historian, a college English professor, and a cheerful farmer.
