What is Muscadet? To many, it’s the ubiquitous pairing for oysters and not much else, a reliably salty quaffer with a confusing name. The flat countryside surrounding Nantes offers no hint of the drama in the soil underfoot. Since the 1990s, Muscadet growers have sought to change that impression, working tirelessly to improve the quality of their wine. Their efforts have produced a new chapter of French Appellation law, a set of ten Crus Communale modeled on the crus of Beaujolais. Now we have a name for the exceptional wines coming from this wildly underrated wine region.

Join us on Wednesday, September 30th as we taste through nine single vineyard Muscadets representing all nine villages within the Sevre-et-Maine heartland of Muscadet. We will have light snacks on hand, and you can reserve a plate of oysters to see if the classic pairing holds up.
