The Las Cubillas vineyard is a higher elevation site with the same mix of clay and limestone. Vines here are 'only' 40 years old, and used to make this cheerful, approachable Crianza that regularly outperforms Reserva wines from other producers. The 2016 edition (aged long enough in bottle to qualify as a Gran Reserva) has strikingly bright red berry fruit with a citrusy note over a boquet of sage, rosemary, and tarragon, plus just a hint of smoked meat. Made from the same blend of grapes as the Tondonia, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. The wine is intended to drink now, but there's no rush.
