During the Soviet era, Kakheti was instructed to pull up all their white vines except the officially sanctioned Rkatsiteli variety. This grape, alongside the red Saperavi, became the two grapes of Georgia, and over the course of 80 years worth of monochromatic Soviet policy, most of Georgia's 520 native grapes came perilously close to dying out. Most survived only in scientific nurseries or isolated plots out of the public eye. This traditional Qvevri aged blend is a demonstration that we are lucky to have those 'less favored' grapes today. A blend of three grapes native to Kakheti that once came oh-s-close to disappearing. The effusive, friendly and fruity Kisi, the mineral, salty, structured Khikhvi, and the honeyed, voluptuous Mtsvane come together to create a perfectly balanced, complex amber - -or orange - wine.
