This wine is picked from the best grapes of each vintage. For 2013, the blend is one third Aragonez, a quarter Castelão, and a fifth each of Touriga Nacional and the strictly local Tinta Miuda grape. Half the wine ages in concrete, the other half in neutral oak after strict cluster selection and a long, slow ferment. After 13 years in bottle, the wine has bloomed with aromas of fresh fig, tamarind, burnt orange peel, blackcurrant, and pipe tobacco. The palate is full and defined by elegant tannins building towards the finish and clean lined acidity. Flavors include blackcurrant, blackberry, blood orange and a hint of baker’s chocolate. The finish offers dried black fruit, orange peels, and pipe smoke.
