If you squint out at the horizon when you’re in Walla Walla, it starts to look just a tiny bit like the countryside of central Spain. Bright green vineyards climb up bright reddish brown grassy hills. Canyons give way to highland plateaus. The towns look a little different, but there are undeniable similarities between the higher elevation vineyards of Walla Walla and the vineyards in the Sierra de Gredos Mountains outside Madrid. Matt and Kelly Austin took inspiration from those mountains, and the Grenache planted in them, for this wine, a soaring bright, (relatively) low alcohol wine that upends the stereotype of this common variety.
