Milhistorias de Altolandon Manchuela Garnacha 2024
Milhistorias de Altolandon Manchuela Garnacha 2024
Manchuela is just a bit closer to the sun than most wine regions. In this eastern quarter of La Mancha near the historic city of Cuenca, vines grow between 1000 and 1200 meters above sea level. In summer, days are blistering hot and the nights are positively chilly. Rain is rare, so vines here are always thirsty, digging deep through thin soils and into the bedrock to find water. It is a perfect place for Rosalia Molino and her husband Manolo Garrote to make their energetically charged, organically farmed wines that break all the old stereotypes of Spanish wine. This bright Garnacha has that high-elevation zest that’s becoming a signature for Spain, with pure aromas of raspberry, guava, passionfruit and gardenia with a dusting of soil. The palate is glowing bright red, filled with strawberries and raspberries and rosehips, orange and tangerine, a full-bodied gulp of fruit kept fresh by acidity, something Rosalia and Manolo work all summer long to preserve in their fruit. The finish features accents of dusty earth and savory herbs to round out the flavor. Serve on a sunny day alongside pan seared pork loin, paella with chorizo sausage in it, and red lentil dal.
