This is one of the best wines to comes from the middle of the Atlantic ocean. That is one of the only wines to make it off the Azores islands and all the way to us should not in any way diminish how incredible it is. 

Phylloxera hit Pico particularly hard, so these vines that survived the louse are particularly treasured. Just a tiny pocket of vines isolated from the rest on volcanic soil.
