Luis Rodriguez Vazquez grew up in Ribeiro - once known as the most prestigious region in Spain for white wine - and has dedicated his career to the local grapes of Ribeiro that still cling to steep river banks in pre-commercial era vineyards. The very oldest, 100+ year old vines - his lowest yielding - barely produce enough grapes to harvest, but in the very best vintages, he sets them aside in the Escolma Blanco. The majority of the wine is the local Treixadura variety, (generally about 60%) with small amounts of Albarino, Lado, and Torrontes. The 2019 edition is chock full of granite-driven minerality, quince and pear and peach and a touch of salt on the finish. For fans of Raul Perez's Ultreia Blanco, Luis Seabra's Granito Cru, or Jose Luis's Quinta da Muradella, Luis Rodriguez is the next wine up.
