Nicholas Maillet and Frantz Chagnoleau are friends. Nicholas works with Savagnin in Jura, and Frantz works in Burgundy's Macon region. In 2020, when France was locked down, they were unable to travel to see each other. To make sure they would never be prohibited from visiting each other again, they went into business together with this wine. They planted a bit of Savagnin from Nicholas' vines in Frantz's Burgundy vineyards, so if ever another pandemic lockdown came along, they would be doing business things while visiting each other.

Incidentally, the wine is brilliant. Savagnin's irrepressible personality comes through loud and clear with intense notes of lemon curd and herbs. The limestone-rich soil comes through nicely too. If anyone else wanted to plant some more Savagnin vines in Burgundy, we wouldn't complain.
