Italian Pinot Grigio is a story of elevation. When it's grown in the flat, giving plains of Venezia Giulia, it too often falls flat, with either not enough flavor or not enough acidity. In the hills and mountains further north, it's an entirely different story. Intense aromas from every corner of the orchard come out, even the rare red cherry. Slate and gravel and generally stony soils that these high elevation vineyards are planted in come through in the wine with intense minerality, set alight by equally intense acidity and weight. This wine from Kofererhof is among the best examples of the latter.
