Valtellina Rosso (or as it is lately known, Alpi Retiche) is one of those rare wines that never fails to impress. It's so hard to grow grapes in this alpine valley, amongst the crags and cliffs of the Alps themselves, that anyone who has made the insane choice to make wine there is going to do a very good job. It is not a place for half-measures. This Pizzo Cocca Rosso is no exception, a clarion call to strawberries, fresh and zesty, thrilling and bright. This wine is Nebbiolo expressed as morning dew, yet it resonates on the palate more than wines far more "traditionally" substantial.
