La Combe Verte means The Green Valley, and the bottling is meant to be a sketch of all of the vineyards Walter Scott works with. Most of those vineyards are in the Eola Amity Hills and give the wine a strong volcanic sensibility: deep set aromas of black cherry and black raspberry, clay and basalt-driven minerality, violets, and a dash of sandalwood. The palate is full and silky but not overbearing, with plenty of acidity to keep the densely packed fruit fresh, and shines light on the earthy grace notes on the finish. This is a perfect example of the uncanny balance of power and elegance that makes Walter Scott famous, and what 2023 will soon be known for.
