Cheverny is a little ways east of Tours, one among many appellations in the hodgepodge of the Touraine along the banks of the Loire River. It is notable for its unique blend of Sauvignon Blanc with Chardonnay, something no other French appellation allows. François Cazin was one of the first people to use the title when it was established in the early 1990s, and his wines are still some of the best. François is a master at both varieties, getting all the fruit and aroma from his Sauvignon Blanc and all the textural elegance from the Chardonnay. Aromas here start with lemon and lime blossoms and pears, with grace notes of candied ginger and white pepper. The palate is creamy textured and gives touches of brioche among all the bursting ripe oranges, lemons and grapefruits. The finish is clean and zesty. Pair this with just about every sort of chicken dish under the sun, so long as it's not overly spicy (for which you will need Cazin’s Renaissance Cuvee off-dry Romorantin).
